The System aims to produce and distribute about (250 thousand) cubic meters of drinking water per day from (106) production wells in the Ghadames Basin area to the population centers through (26) feeding holes located in the western part of the areas of Jabal Nafusa (Awlaas Mahmoud, Al-Mujabrah, Kabau, Tamzin, Tandamira, Al-Haraba through Nalut and Tkut) and the western part of (Jefara Plain and Qadam Al-Jabal) and extending from the cities west of the Nafusa Mountains (Al-Hawamid, Al-Ruwais through Tiji and Badr to Shakshuk in the east) and then north to the cities of the western coast passing through (Alotiya, Ajilat, Sabratha, Sorman, Al-Josh, Abu Issa and even Al-Zawia in the east) and from (Al-Jamil, Zwara, Ragdalin, Zoltan to Abu Guammash in the west).
The system was partially operated by the end of 2009 by operating (10) production wells to feed the city of Nalut and its environs and the area of Awlaad Mahmoud with drinking water at a rate ranging between (3000 to 5000) cubic meters per day, and the total of what was produced until 12/31/2016 about (8.5) million cubic meters.
The System consists of the following components:
• (106) production wells and (14) control wells
(3) Pumping stations from Al-Abaar, Jubaiba and Sinaon fields
• Water transmission and distribution lines, with a total length of about (821) km.
(2) Reservoirs in each of Al-Abaar and Al-Juweibiya fields, and a pressure-breaking reservoir in Nalut.
